Award in New York
Some of us remember the emotions that accompanied the World Cup in 1982. The history of this tournament has been captured in the outstanding documentary “Mundial. The Game of All,” which won the hearts of viewers and critical acclaim, earning the prestigious GOLDEN WHISTLE award at the Kicking & Screening Soccer Film Festival in New York.
The film, directed by Michał Bielawski, transports us to a time when the Polish national football team achieved unprecedented success, while also bearing witness to difficult moments in our country’s history. It is a story of passion and determination, but also of strength and courage, which are indispensable in the face of adversity.
The editing was handled by Grzegorz Mazur, the founder of the MONOCOLOR post-production studio and an editor of numerous award-winning documentaries.
The film’s description from filmpolski.pl aptly summarizes its content: “The ‘Espana ’82’ championships were the last success of the Polish national team at the FIFA World Cup. […] The performance in Spain is also seen from the perspective of the players, trying not only to meet their own ambitions but also to bear the weight of the fans’ expectations and the regime’s propaganda.”
“Mundial. The Game of All” is a work that not only showcases sporting competition but also helps to understand the important role football played in the lives of Poles during the difficult times of martial law. It is a story about the strength of spirit, about fighting, and about hope, which can never be lost.
